This Qualification is an entry-level qualification for those who want to enter the field of Child & Youth Care Work (C&YCW) as a potential career. It builds on practical experience and community-based learning, and equips people for their role as an auxiliary child and youth care worker. As such the Qualification will also be valuable for those who may have been practicing within the field, but without formal recognition. In particular, this Qualification will be useful for:

Auxiliary child and youth care workers

Persons who work in related fields such as social workers, pastoral counselors, where knowledge and skill of C&YCW is an advantage.

Entry Requirement

    Learners who want to register for this qualification must have the following;


    12 with mathematics/Mathematical Literacy and English

    Senior Certificate

    Any qualification equivalent to the above

Accreditation and Duration

The Level 5 qualification accreditation, Occupation Certificate: as it’s called is provided by The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and the following is our QCTO ACCREDITATION:


3 Years (Divided into 2 components)

18 Months of the theoretical component (N4, N5 and N6)

18 Months of practical in-service training

Vertical Articulation

ID 59236: National Diploma: Nursing, NQF Level 5.

ID 23994: Bachelor: Social Work, NQF Level 7. 

Learners will be formatively and summative assessed in theoretical studies on the basis of assignments, as individuals and group projects and as well as short tests. Assignments, case studies, problem-solving techniques will assist with formative assessments. Learners will also be formatively assessed in real work environment on the basis of observation in natural setting of social service provision for a period of 6 months.

Learners are attached but not limited to the following organizations: Clinics, Rehabilitation centers, testing and counseling centers, Hospices, Health Research centers, child welfare agencies, orphanages…

Certification

Learners who have passed the External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) will be issued with an occupational certificate. This certificate will be issued by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), those who fail, will be granted 1 more opportunity for reassessment

Learners who have passed EISA National Examination will be awarded Occupational Certificate: Social Auxiliary Work Level 5 by Quality Council for Trades & Occupations

The certificates for the Further Education and Training Certificate: Social Auxiliary Work Level 4 are issued by the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority
