Description

The National Certificate Vocational (NCV) is a 3-year, NQF Level 4 qualification designed as a practical, career-focused alternative to academic Matric (NSC). It covers Levels 2, 3, and 4, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on skills for direct employment or higher education. The NCV qualification Prepares students for specific industries ranging from Engineering and related designs to management and administration by combining vocational subjects with practical, workplace-oriented skills. The 3rd year (Level 4) of this qualification is equivalent to an NSC (Matric) and allows entry into university, provided the entry requirements are met.

Entry Requirement

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is Grade 9 or its equivalent. This allows you to enroll for the first Level (Level 2).

It’s also a progression program, level 2 will take to Level 3, then Level 3 to Level 4 which is the last year and level of the qualification.

Attendance Categories

Students can choose between the 5 options available for attendance, Full time – Monday to Friday, Part time – Saturdays, Online – Monday to Friday and correspondence.

Workplace Learning

Learners are exposed to real working conditions and simulated workplace experiences, inform of internships, learnership, and shadowing, which offer crucial on-the-job training, allowing students to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Participants build industry contacts; enhance employability skills, and gain confidence, often resulting in improved career prospects and a stronger CV. These opportunities can be paid or unpaid, often involving stipends.

Assessments

This qualification is externally assessed by Department of Higher Education and Training at the end of each level for the modules that the learner registered in that particular level. To qualify for this assessment, the learner has to obtain 40% in the Internal Continuous Assessments (Tests and assignments) conducted internally during the course of the year.

Certification

A National Certificate Vocational (NCV) will be issued on successful passing of all required level 2 modules. This certificate is issued by the UMALUSI as the quality assurance body in coordination with the Department of Higher Education and Training as the assessment organ.
