Description

Chemical Engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with chemical production and the manufacture of products through chemical processes. This includes designing equipment, systems and processes for refining raw materials and for mixing, compounding and processing chemicals to make various products. The main role of Chemical Engineers is to design and troubleshoot processes for the production of chemicals, fuels, foods, pharmaceuticals and biological processes.

The National N Diploma: Chemical Engineering qualification is primarily aimed at giving the learner technical, theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge, the workplace knowledge and the skills required in the Civil Engineering environment.

Attendance Categories

The college takes all efforts to accommodate all learning schedules possible but we mainly categorize them into the following:

The full time attendance (Those who attend Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:000)

The Part time attendance (This is only done on Saturday, 09:00 – 14:00)

Online (This is a 24 hour learning)

Correspondence (With this, all study material and all forms of assessment will be couriered to the registered address)

Workplace Learning

This qualification requires a compulsory experimental learning or in-service training component of 18 months in matters relating to Chemical Engineering. Workplace Learning provides important opportunities for professional and personal growth. It addresses specific competencies identified for the acquisition of the qualification, which relates to the development of skills that will make the student employable and will assist in developing his or her personal skills. A training logbook is provided by the college as guide line for the training on what the training should cover.

Entry Requirement

1. Grade 10 with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science

2. No formal communication for anyone older than 23

Assessments

There are 2 (two) forms of assessments required for this qualification that must be done at each of the qualification levels. The Internal Continuous assessments (2 class Tests) that are conducted by the college and then the Final external examination which is set, monitored and facilitated by the Department of higher education and Training. Certification

On successful completion of each level, i.e., passing all the required modules of individual qualification levels, a certificate for that particular completed level will be issued by the Department of Higher Education and Training together with the Quality council for Trades and Occupation.

The National N Diploma is only issued if proof of 18 months of practical in-service training is provided accompanying the Diploma application. The application process takes a maximum of 3 months.

Accreditation and Duration

3 Years (Divided into 2 components)

  • 1. 18 Months of practical in-service training
